Meet Your Chefs
Chef Andre Rush
Andre Rush is a freelance White House chef who is adept at ice sculpting, cake decorating and building his muscles to a staggering 24-inch biceps. He’s been cooking for high-profile figures such as Obama since 1997.
Rush is a retired Army master sergeant who spent 24 years in the military. In 1994, he became a cook and began honing his craft as a chef, master cake decorator, desert and ice sculptor. He is also producing a cookbook named Combat Food Medic that’s geared towards helping veterans dealing with PTSD.
For nearly a decade, Serve Our Willing Warriors (SOWW) has been providing “a little taste of home” for our wounded, ill and injured warriors and their families at both the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. Our annual events have included gift-giving at holidays, summer cookouts, and visitation with lonely service and family members.
Our goal is to create a growing coalition of aware, engaged, and supportive individuals, companies and communities to work alongside us as we continued to provide ongoing support to our wounded, ill and injured warriors and their families through sponsoring “Willing Warrior” hospital events and peaceful, restorative “Warrior Getaways” at our Warrior Retreat at Bull Run.
We established the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run in 2015 in beautiful Haymarket, VA. Situated on 37 acres on the edge of the Bull Run Mountains, we have two houses -- our original 11,000 square foot house (now called the Lang Home in honor of the original owners) and a second house, the PenFed Foundation Home, a 4,200 square foot house -- both provides “a home away from home” for outpatient warriors and their families currently residing at nearby military hospitals as well as disabled veterans. Warriors and their families are invited to spend up to six days surrounded by an appreciative community that provides activities, Visiting Chef Program, special events and camaraderie in accordance with the desires of our honored guests.
